A New Domain Name is Launched for London
General availability for the much anticipated Dot London domain begins on 9th September 2014, however London based businesses and residents have been given a priority period to register their own Dot London domain name.
The Dot London domain name is being released on the 29th April 2014 for businesses, organisations and individuals who live in London or is associated with it and want to promote their link to the city within their online presence.
London is one of the first cities in the world who has launched its own domain name making it a global digital pioneer and keeping London at the forefront of innovation.
Who is eligible for a Dot London domain?
The Dot London domains will first be available for a priority period for trademark holders and for London based residents. The priority period to apply for Dot London domains is between 29th April 2014 and 31 July 2014.
During the priority period, applicants for domain names will be assessed according to a priority ranking system. The priority rankings are as follows:
- Priority 1: Trademark holders in TMCH (ICANN Trademark Clearinghouse)
- Priority 2: London residents who also have a right to the name because it matches their business name or other associated name
- Priority 3: Anyone who has an address in London
- Priority 4: Applicants who do not live within London
If more than one person is eligible for the same Dot London domain name, an external validation agent will assess a priority ownership. If there is an equal priority ownership for a Dot London domain name by multiple applicants, the name shall go to auction.

Following the priority period, Dot London domain names will become available on a first come, first served basis. The Dot London domain name will become generally available from 9th September 2014.
It is estimated that between 50,000 and 100,000 Dot London domain names will be registered following the general availability date.
